Run 梦幻之星Online.exe to install the game wherever you like, then start PSOBBLauncher.exe. If you only downloaded the launcher, put it in the PSOBB client root folder, run 梦幻之星注册表修复.reg first, then PSOBBLauncher.exe. After starting PSOBBLauncher.exe remember to set up the game options — widescreen and HD patches are already applied.

Original system requirements

These are the original system requirements for Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst. Modern systems far exceed them, but in short: PSOBB runs on anything that supports DirectX 9, from Windows XP SP3 up to Windows 11.

Important notes

PSOBB is a Windows-only game, tested on Windows XP through Windows 11. It can be installed on other systems (macOS, Linux) via Wine Wrapper, Proton (Steam Deck) or virtualization, but smooth operation is not guaranteed and we cannot provide support for those platforms.

On Windows 10 and Windows 11 you may need to disable "Fullscreen optimizations" for the game to run best in fullscreen. To do so, open the game root folder (your game drive:\Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst\), right-click PSOBBLauncher.exe, and enable: Disable fullscreen optimizations.

If the game fails to start the first time, open "Options" in the launcher and set the resolution to at least 1280x920, color depth to 32-bit, graphics to High, and enable windowed mode.

PSOBB is designed for DirectInput controllers (such as the Sony PlayStation DUALSHOCK 4) and also supports most Nintendo Switch and PlayStation controllers. You can map every button easily in the in-game controller settings.

For: Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X controllers

Note: PSOBB detects Xinput devices (all Xbox controllers) poorly, so you need an external tool called XinputPlus to map the LT/RT triggers. Follow the steps below:

Download and unzip the XinputPlus application and put the folder in the C:\ root.
Run it as administrator. On first launch you may need .NET Framework — just choose download and it installs automatically.
At the top of the main window, select the PSOBB executable (PsoBB.exe) inside your game install folder.
In XinputPlus, open the "DirectInput" tab, tick "Enable DirectInput output", and choose "Button 11/12" in the LT/RT dropdowns.
Click Apply, then Exit, and start PSOBB as usual — you should now be able to map the triggers in the in-game control settings.
